"I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud..." - July 5

When I looked at the weather forecast prior to coming on this trip, it looked like the temperature was always about 60-70 degrees and rainy. So I packed accordingly. In York it was warm and muggy and we had one downpour, during our walking tour of course! But I have to say, the weather has been wonderful since. It rains during the night, and we see blue skies off and on, with the sun peeking out from behind the clouds at times. Sunday morning we headed into Windemere to check out the tourist information office. We have two guidebooks, but wanted some local input. It had been our intent to drive about 30 minutes in the opposite direction to attend church, but we didn't get moving early enough, so we bagged that. We decided to check out Dove Cottage, home of William Wordsworth during his most prolific period. They say here that his most famous poem is "Daffodils" but we're not too sure about that claim. (Google Wordsworth Daffodils to read the poem). Apparently he penned the poem after he and his sister, on one of their rambles, came across a field of the lovely yellow blooms. The adjacent Wordsworth Museum had many original documents of both his and his sister, Dorothy, who wrote journals about the time. (She was unmarried and lived with him throughout her life.) At Dove Cottage, he and his wife, Mary, had four of their five children. After living there for about 10 years, they moved to another location not far away.We continued on to amble around the quaint village of Ambleside, checked out the local movie theatre for show times, and bought some goodies. Oh, and speaking of goodies, I forgot to mention that when we were at Castle Howard we picked up the shortbread with caramel and chocolate on it that Sarah said we should look for. Delicious! In York at Poundland (think Dollar Store) I picked up Galaxy Hot Chocolate drink mix and a Galaxy bar for Laura (just the bar, the drink mix is for me to have here!) Returning to our condo with some groceries, we made some pasta and sauce, with some fresh baguettes and butter and were most content.

Woohoo! Donkeys in advance for the chocolate. And I'm glad you guys are having good weather--it poured rain the whole time we were there.

Nice! On everything but especially the shortbread. You can get regular shortbread, and even chocolate covered shortbread in the south (of England), but for some reason only in the north did they think to add caramel. Obviously they are of a higher class.

Whoa whoa whoa...I just assumed that you'd bring me home Galaxy bars, Cadbury chocolates, and other goodies. I didn't know we had to put in a request!! I LOVE galaxy bars...and also those bars that are flaky...I feel like it's called flakes? Or anything with marshmallow in it.
